A security system is a combination of devices and services that protect a residence or business against invasion, intrusion, and sometimes natural disasters. Residential, commercial, and industrial customers use them to safeguard against burglary and property damage. Systems range across price points and may include video cameras, alarm panels, smart home automation, notifications, smart locks, and smart sensors — installed professionally or DIY depending on scope.

Astech engineers each system around the building, not the brochure. We start with a walk of the property — entry points, sight lines, network closets, power, sensor placement, and the way people actually move through the space — and design the device layout from that. Hardware is matched to risk: a small residence may need three sensors and a hub; a clinic or municipal building gets zoned panels, redundant cellular signaling, supervised circuits, and integration with access control and fire.

Alarm systems alert owners to intrusion attempts. They function standalone or as the control panel for a larger security ecosystem, with sensors reporting back to the central panel so the alarm can sound within seconds of a door or window being breached. When paired with automation, owners receive real-time notifications and can control the system remotely from the security hub.

We install DSC and GE intrusion panels with door/window contacts, motion PIRs, glass-break detectors, smart sirens, and panic devices. Every panel is provisioned with cellular backup via UpLink so the system keeps signaling even if the phone line is cut or internet goes down. Programming covers entry/exit delays, partitioned zones, user codes with audit trails, and silent duress codes for high-risk sites.

Security cameras (CCTV) help monitor a specific area and deter crime. Unlike surveillance cameras, CCTV sends signals to a local monitor and does not necessarily route over an IP network. We install video doorbell cameras and a wide variety of indoor and outdoor cameras — placed in plain sight or hidden depending on need — with options for self-monitoring or professional monitoring. Professional installation prevents the wiring and reliability issues common with DIY kits.

Camera work isn't just mounting — it's lens selection, aim, lighting, low-voltage routing, NVR capacity, retention policy, and remote-view setup. We use Panasonic Security IP cameras and NVRs alongside hybrid analog/IP recorders when budget calls for it, and we configure motion masking, smart-event alerts, and mobile streaming so footage is usable, not just recorded.

Access control governs who can open which door, when, and with what credential. The right system replaces lost-key rekeys with a software revoke, gives managers a real-time view of who's on site, and produces an audit trail for compliance.

We install card, fob, PIN, and mobile-credential readers paired with electric strikes, mag locks, and request-to-exit hardware. Schedules can be tuned per door, per credential, and per shift; lockdown and free-egress modes are tested at handover. Access control panels integrate with our intrusion and video systems so a forced-door event can trigger an alarm and pull camera footage automatically.

Life-safety systems are held to a stricter standard than intrusion: code-mandated devices, supervised wiring, regular inspection, and central-station reporting. Astech installs and services Silent Knight commercial fire alarm panels alongside the rest of the security stack.

Scope covers initiating devices (smoke, heat, pull stations), notification appliances (horns, strobes), monitoring modules, and the cellular/IP communicators that report to a UL-listed central station for fire dispatch. Systems are commissioned, tagged, and documented per AHJ requirements.

Hardware is only half of a security system. The other half is the operator who answers when a sensor trips at 3 a.m., verifies the alert with you, and dispatches the right responder.

Astech connects every monitored install to a UL-listed central station with redundant signaling paths — cellular primary, IP secondary, with backup batteries inside each panel. Burglar, fire, medical, and panic signals are routed and dispatched separately, and account records are kept current so responders go to the right address with the right gate codes and contacts.
